The application of bentonite in agriculture can significantly impact soil quality, and its applications are numerous. Given its ion exchange capacity, bentonite is used in soil conditioning.

Globally, bentonite appears to be widely used in agriculture in fields in northeast Thailand. Bentonite has reversed soil degradation in this area, resulting in strong economic returns with higher production yields.

Due to its properties, bentonite is also used to absorb moisture in gardening soil, as a substrate for pesticides and herbicides, and to reclaim soil in marshy areas.
