Article by Michele Proclamato at the presentation of the book "Arcimboldo"
Sincerely?
Well, I should have dealt with Roger Bacon. Yes, my latest bibliographical "effort" would have had Bacon as the protagonist.
I would have liked to write about that friar made famous by Sean Connery in "The Name of the Rose." I already knew a few things about him, so...
But no. That's the beauty of my job, after all, I do what I feel, almost always.
In fact, while I was searching on the internet for some bibliographical references concerning one of the greatest alchemists of the Christian world, capable of "inventing" glasses centuries before Descartes, what appears, just like that, as if he wanted to present himself to me and my attention with all his load of symbolic meanings?
An image, or rather a painting, that immediately changed my mind. A painting by yet another local genius, one that Italian history has often culpably overlooked.
Unfortunately, "We" have a very long bench, as they say in football jargon, and we quickly forget about the champions, especially the local ones. In short, looking for Bacone I encountered the work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, and, boy, it left an indelible mark on me, so much so that my new publishing house will publish a book of mine on this genius.
