ERNA VAN DEVENTER – A biography
When eurythmy was created, the new art of movement born on the indications of Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925), Erna Wolfram-van Deventer (1894-1976) became one of the first eurythmists and dedicated her entire life to this art.
Born at the end of the 19th century, Erna van Deventer had a difficult life, marked by many deaths and a difficult historical period.
The question “can we learn to cure?” it has accompanied her since childhood and was the determining factor in developing eurythmy as a healing possibility. In April 1921, during a course held by Rudolf Steiner in Dornach, the foundations were laid for the birth of therapeutic eurythmy.
The life and personal events of Erna van Deventer developed through the difficulties of the First World War, then of National Socialism and the Second World War, always with a firm conviction aimed at developing the healing aspect of eurythmy, making will and of the courage to take care of the cornerstones of all his work. Despite numerous difficulties, she has always faced with freedom and courage what life has brought her way.
This biography retraces all the phases of the birth of eurythmy and therapeutic eurythmy in the context of Rudolf Steiner's anthroposophy.
