Like other Steiner works of the same subject, The Enigmas of Philosophy can also be read in two ways: as a text of high cultural value that helps to understand and delve deeper into a problem, or as a stimulus that leads to actively solving it with an intimate and personal experience.

The author himself, albeit indirectly and in more general terms, seems to suggest this double possibility, when in the first and last chapter of this second volume he observes that thought can be used as an instrument of knowledge, but it can also be inserted into the depth of the soul as a living germ of a new spiritual reality: in a similar way therefore to the grain of wheat, which can be consumed as food, but can also be placed in the heart of the earth as a seed from which a new plant will germinate.
