Jakob von Uexküll
Jakob von Uexküll (1864-1944), of Estonian origin, after an initial period of research in Heidelberg under the direction of the physiologist Wilhelm Kühne (a student of Hermann von Helmholtz), carried out his scientific activity first in Germany, at the University of Hamburg, where in 1926 he founded the Institute for Environmental Research and later in Italy, in the Zoological Station of Naples, where he dedicated himself in particular to the study of the physiology and environment of sea urchins. He is buried in Capri, where he spent the last years of his life.
