SHELLED SAINFIN - UNTREATED
Dettagli
Excellent soil improver with a deep taproot system, rich in numerous large tubers. It is very hardy, resistant to pests, cold, and especially drought. A perennial plant with an average lifespan of 2-3 years, it adapts very well to poor, loose, calcareous, and stony soils, as long as they are not acidic. It can be sown intercropped with wheat (using the "bulatura" technique). When used as forage, it produces a highly palatable and digestible product, obtained practically from the first cut, as regrowth is quite modest. It is very suitable for grazing due to its palatability and digestibility.
Sainfoin is harvested by bees for both nectar and pollen. It is among the legumes most sought after by bees for its concentrated nectar (42-55% sugars), producing a white honey with a delicate aroma and flavor. In the Italian Apennine regions, it is an important supplier of pollen, and in some areas, from May to August, bees collect pollen almost exclusively from this legume.
Sowing: in southern Italy and in mild climates in autumn, in colder climates at the end of winter, generally in March
