Family: Solanaceae

Species: Licopersicon lycopersicum

Origin: Latin America (Peru)

CLIMATE: optimal for growth 20-22°C - minimum 12°C - long photoperiod - sunny exposure - the greater the day-night thermal difference, within the tolerance limits, the floral induction increases.

SOWING: crescent moon - climbing varieties 40x150 plant - dwarf varieties 50x180 - 4 plants m2.

BIOINFORMA very widespread species in vegetable gardens, it requires little care and little but constant water. The root is tap-rooted even if it has numerous superficial roots. For this reason we always recommend direct sowing in order to allow the tap root to develop to the maximum. The increasingly widespread use of transplanting with pre-cultivated plants determines a limited taproot and very developed superficial roots, in this case irrigation must be more numerous and more abundant. More and more often the use of seedlings determines the fragility of the plant which manifests itself with apical rot of the fruits. Despite being a rustic species, the tomato tends to get sick, in this case we recommend treatments based on elemental sulfur to create an acidic microenvironment as an obstacle to plant diseases (rot, aphids, red spider mite). Another piece of advice is to sow more varieties with different characteristics, dwarf and climbing, round and long, with small and large fruits, that is, to diversify the plant.
