Austrian philosopher and pedagogist. He studied at the Vienna Polytechnic and subsequently dedicated himself to investigations into literary history and natural sciences. He wrote several studies on Goethe which he remained enthusiastic about. At the end of the nineteenth century he encountered the theosophy founded by Mrs. Blavatsky, a field where he produced fundamental works. This movement takes on a more intellectual character in Steiner than it had previously. In 1913 he founded his own movement, anthroposophy. With this it aims to bring man through superior knowledge to a superior morality, but the utopian basis of this movement soon makes it suggestive, illusory and ineffective.
His main works include The Mystic , How Knowledge is Achieved in the Higher Worlds , On the Human Enigma and On the Enigmas of the Soul . The relevant publishing house is Editrice Antroposofica.
